Skipping breakfast is probably the worst mistake you can make while attending college. The value of of the first meal of the day is reiterated in almost every school’s lunchroom and health center anyone has ever been to. Still as American children grow older, fewer eat breakfast. On average about seventy-seven percent of young children eat breakfast daily; however, by the time those students reach high school the number drops to thirty six percent and the trend continues when these students enter college.

Despite all the campaigns, and funded programs breakfast remains underrated. Breakfast fuels the brain after the long period gone without eating while you slept.  It motivates that individuals metabolism and allows that person to eat on a more regular schedule. Not only does it benefits your mood and overall health, but it can help with safe weight loss.  No one wants to sit through class while their stomach rumbles louder than their professor’s lecture, it’s usually a matter of time.

It’s understand that most value sleep more than eating. Who hasn’t set their alarm allowing you only enough time to wash up, get dressed, and run out the door. Being pushed to wake up fifteen minutes earlier for these incredibly tasty and easy breakfast on the fly. It can’t get more simple than a two step toast with spread. Pop in two slices of raisin bread in your toaster and spread a little bit of cream cheese all over it. It can easily be eaten  while you’re walking to your car. There are a million and one combinations to this recipe.

Try wheat with an avocado spread and slice tomatoes, or peanut butter spread over banana bread topped with banana slices, sprinkled with flax seeds.  Use whatever is available in your kitchen cabinet, just don’t walk out the door with an empty stomach. Make an everything packed smoothie to drink at your pace to start your day. A typical smoothie consist of a liquid base, frozen fruit combination, and a “superfood”.  A superfood just describes any food well packed in nutrients and is considered to be extremely helpful in the bettering and maintaining of one’s well being.  Usually the base can be a  juice, milk, water, or yogurt of your liking whereas any ingredient afterwards can be something as simple as a banana, or as exotic as you please.  Start of by trying  Eating Well’s Pineapple Green Smoothie. Start by adding ½ cup of almond milk and ⅓ cup of nonfat greek yogurt into your blender along with one cup baby spinach, one cup frozen banana slices, ½ cup frozen pineapple chunks, one tablespoon chia seeds, 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup, or honey. The recipe can be manipulated however to your liking as long as you have a liquid and something frozen, so no excuse for not giving this one a try!

There is more to your pantry than what meets the eye. Eat a whole grain cereal with fresh fruit, or boil oatmeal and serve it with brown sugar and crunchy apples.  Crack an egg and throw a slice of ham in the mix. Buy a pack of your favorite granola bars and keep a few in you bag for the mornings you’re running extra late. Make eating a priority. Your health is priority.
