As college students, we always look forward to a good scare from our favorite movies. From iconic scary movies like, “Night of the Living Dead” to newly released “Halloween Kills”, grab your candy bowl and prepare for a good scare. Whether you are with family or friends, here are five horror movies SXU students can enjoy this Halloween.

Jeepers Creepers

If there is one thing we have learned about being on the road, it is never to run into “Jeepers Creepers”. Released in 2001, this iconic horror movie follows the road trip journey of two siblings, Darry and Trish Jenner. The duo find themselves the target of the creeper when they pass him dumping a strange black bag into an old church tunnel. Darry and Trish chose to get away, but Jeepers Creepers had other plans.

Halloween (1978)

If you are looking for another genuine scare, look no further. This 1978 horror film is a go-to favorite of many Halloween lovers. This legendary horror series follows the story of a 21-year-old, Michael Myers, as he escapes Smith’s Grove hospital, and searches for his long-lost sister, Laurie Strode. Laurie Strode, an introverted 17-year-old, sees Halloween as just another normal day, but what she did not know, is that this Halloween would lead her to years of running for her life.

IT (Remake, 2017)

Are you afraid of clowns? If so , this next horror movie villain will be sure to scare you. Stephen King’s “IT” made its first appearance in theatres back in 1990. The story follows a deranged, shapeshifting, clown named Pennywise, that appears in the small town of Darry, Maine every 27 years, and lurks after the children and their fears. In this remake, seven outcast children must band together and face their fears in order to defeat Pennywise once and for all, but what they did not realize, is that Pennywise is not your average friendly clown.

Sinister (2012)

There’s nothing like celebrating Halloween with the  one movie that’ll genuinely scare you. “Sinister”, a horror film released in 2012, tells the story of a true-crime author who moves his family into a crime house where five previous families experienced fatalities. Ellie Oswald is so desperate for another hit story, that as soon as he moves his family into the eerie home, he is determined to solve the mystery and begins searching through old home footage, along with  other clues that appear throughout the house. He then comes across the evil spirit of a supernatural force and realizes that the hit book he was looking for, may come at the cost of his entire family.

The Conjuring (2013)

What better way to round off this spooky list with one of the scariest movies of all time? “The Conjuring”, released in 2013, is a paranormal thriller that tells the story of the 1970 exorcism of the Perron family that seeks help from demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Claiming to be possessed by evil spirits, the Perron family finds themselves scrambling to get away from the house, only to be told that the demon has ‘latched’ itself to their family. This horror film is also based on a true story which makes the movie a lot more terrifying than the others.

With this Halloween movie list, SXU students can sit and enjoy a night of horror. Happy Halloween!
