Hey, Cougars! As the semester draws to a close, we will all be looking for fun things to do over summer break, and what better way to spend time with friends and family than to watch a good movie? So, grab your popcorn and settle in, because these are the most anticipated film releases of 2022.
Thor Love and Thunder
One of Marvel’s most popular superheroes is getting the fourth film in his franchise. That’s right, Thor 4 has been in the works since Thor: Ragnarok, but Marvel did not officially announce it until April of 2020. There was even more buzz after another announcement that director Taika Waititi would be returning to the unreleased film, as fans became excited to see what was next in store for Thor. Thor: Love & Thunder, which is set to be released on July 8th, is without a doubt one of the most anticipated movies of 2022.
NOPE
Our favorite Sci-Fi/Horror director returns with yet another creatively perplexing film. Jordan Peele, the director of Get Out and US, is already planning a third successful film. The trailer for NOPE first appeared on Twitter, where Peele shared it with the caption, “What’s a bad miracle?” Fans are both surprised and ecstatic about the new film. Although many people were confused by the trailer, they still made plans to see the film, which is set to be released on July 22nd.
Lightyear
A beloved animated series is returning to the big screen with Lightyear, a spinoff of the Toy Story series that follows the origin story of the brave and confident space ranger, Buzz Lightyear. The trailer for the film was unexpectedly released on the morning of February 8th, and fans were ecstatic. Fans are counting down the days until the film’s premiere on June 17th, 2022, eager to see how his story will unfold.
Jurassic World Dominion
Jurassic World, the remake of Steven Spielberg’s action-packed sci-fi film Jurassic Park, has undoubtedly made original Jurassic Park fans proud. Jurassic World is set to return after a four-year hiatus. Following the destruction of Isla Nublar in the second film, Jurassic World Dominion will be released on June 10th. This movie will demonstrate how humans and dinosaurs can coexist. Jurassic World Dominion is expected to live up to the hype, as did the first two films, and to be the summer blockbuster.
Black Panther II: Wakanda Forever
What better way to end this list than with a movie series that quickly became a fan favorite. Following the continuation of Black Panther, the film that introduced Marvel’s first black superhero was a box office success, earning $1 billion after a month in theaters in 2018. The anticipated sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has already created buzz on social media, despite the lack of a trailer. Set to be released on November 11th, 2022, there is no doubt that Black Panther 2 will satisfy fans.
