5 Christmas Movies to Enjoy This Holiday Season

Since Thanksgiving and Black Friday have just passed,  we all know what comes next… Christmas! In this list, we will go over five  classic Christmas movies that all SXU students can enjoy with their families. So, grab your cup of hot chocolate, and get ready to bask in the holiday spirit!

Home Alone ( 1990)

We all know that “Home Alone” is an unforgettable Christmas classic film, and even though it’s been 30 years since its original release, we still can’t get enough of it. Following the entire day of 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, who is left alone after his family mistakenly leaves him at home for a Christmas family vacation. Kevin believes his dream of no longer having a family had come true, but what Kevin doesn’t realize, is that two con men are planning to burglarize his home, and it is entirely up to him to protect it.

 The Christmas Chronicles (2018) 

A movie filled with adventure and laughs. “Christmas Chronicles” is a fun movie to enjoy alone or with friends and family. A story about 2 kids who hatch a plan to catch Santa Claus! However, their idea does not go as planned when they are sent on a journey along with Saint Nick himself, and one of his  jolly elves to save Christmas before it is too late. 

 Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) 

Originally released as an animated film that children adored, the live-action remake of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is something the whole family can enjoy. Following the life of a grumpy grinch who has never cared for the popular holiday, he decides to ruin Christmas for every Whoville citizen. He steals anything Christmas-related and plans to damage it, until he meets Cindy Lou Who—an adoring child who helps the Grinch appreciate Christmas once and for all.

 Frozen (2013) 

This next isnt really a Christmas film but is one of the most beloved animated Disney films of all time that takes place in the winter!. “Frozen”, originally released in 2013, tells the story of an ice queen by the name of Queen Elsa who accidentally curses her town into an infinite winter. Devastated by what she has done, Elsa’s sister, Ana, teams up with a mountain man, his reindeer, and a silly magical snowman to help break the curse and change the weather conditions.

 Elf (2003) 

Looking for a Christmas film where you and your family can all enjoy a heartfelt laugh? Well, look no further, because Will Ferrell’s “Elf”, will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. This film tells the story of Buddy, who was accidentally sent to the North Pole as a baby and was raised among Santa’s elves. Now as an adult, Buddy is determined to hit the streets of New York to search for his biological father. After finding him, the two must now work together to form a relationship and make up for the lost time.
