According to Exploding Topics Statistics, the amount of active gamers worldwide has increased by over thirty two percent over the last seven years. The number now stands at approximately 3.09 billion people.
Just this year, there are hundreds of releases on numerous consoles. Let’s look at five of the top releases and a few of the most anticipated releases of this year.
The first release I would like to talk about is “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,” which will be released on Nov. 10. Like other “Call of Duty” games, this will feature an online multiplayer mode, and a single player campaign.
However, “Modern Warfare 3” will feature an open world zombies map. This will be the first game in the Modern Warfare franchise to include zombies as a gamemode.
Unlike previous games, all weapons, cosmetics, operators, and bundles from “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” will carry over to “Modern Warfare 3.”
Next, I would like to talk about “Mortal Kombat 1.” This game was recently released on Sep. 14. It is a direct sequel to the most recent installment to the franchise, “Mortal Kombat 11.”
Personally, I find this game to be so much fun. It introduces “Kameos,” which are characters that you select to assist your fighter during battles. Among my favorite characters to fight with are Geras, Smoke, and General Shao.
There are also characters that will be coming soon in the first “Kombat Pack.” These include Takeda Takahashi, Ermac, Quan Chi, DC’s Peacemaker, Homelander from “The Boys,” and Omni-Man from “Invincible.”
Currently, it is rumored that even Ghostface from the “Scream” franchise will be included in the second Kombat Pack.
The third release I would like to mention is “Hogwarts Legacy.” Released on Feb. 10, this single player game featured only a story mode. In this story, the character you create would embark on a journey, discovering ancient magic and making friends along the way.
It is set approximately in the 1890’s, a hundred years before the events of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Unfortunately the game has two complaints.
The first complaint is that Quidditch is not able to be played in the game. During the beginning of the story, the Headmaster of Hogwarts reveals that the Quidditch season is canceled.
The second complaint is that there is no online multiplayer or even co-op. To be honest, I completely agree with this sentiment. It would be so much fun, playing with friends and using spells on one another.
Coming in fourth is “Jedi: Survivor,” which was released on April 28. I am a massive Star Wars fan, and this game is a rare occurance of a perfect sequel.
The game revolves around Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan) further exploring the galaxy alongside fighting the tyranny of the Galactic Empire. The game is currently offered on next-gen consoles and PC.
The only game mode offered is single player story, and this is completely acceptable. The story was kept secret for so long, which made the game even more enjoyable. As well, the surprise appearance of a certain bounty hunter made me excited for the future of the franchise.
It was also recently announced by Cameron Monaghan himself that the third installment of the “Jedi” video game franchise is in production.
Finally, I would like to talk about “Spider-Man 2.” This has to be the most anticipated video game of the year. So many people are praising the game already, and it hasn’t even been released yet.
Though the game is exclusive to the PlayStation 5, fans are universally spreading excitement. The ability to instantly switch between playing as Peter Parker or Miles Morales is just incredible.
As well, Venom and Kraven the Hunter are two very big villains for the spider-duo to face.
However, spoilers are lurking the internet. Somehow, the collectible trophies of the game surfaced on Reddit.
Overall, there are so many games coming out this year, and in the foreseeable future. Video games offer something for everyone, and they will continue to put smiles on people’s faces for years to come.
