The 2016 SXU Student Commencement Speakers

Saint Xavier University is proud to announce the students selected through a competitive process to present speeches at the May Commencement Ceremonies.  Peter London, Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting will present his speech on Friday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. to graduates of SXU’s Graham School of Management (GSM); Chance’s D. Walker, Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Psychology, will present her speech on Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. to graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences; and lastly, Alexa Nakutis, Bachelor of Science in Nursing will give her speech on Saturday, May 7 at 3 p.m. to graduates of the School of Education (SOE) and School of Nursing (SON).  Congratulations to these students for their work in creating moving, impactful and gracious speeches in honor of their time at SXU and their fellow graduates.  All Commencement Ceremonies are held in the Shannon Center.

Peter London

Bachelor of Business Administration, Concentration: Accounting

A lifelong resident of Bridgeview, IL, Peter London transferred in during his sophomore year and is obtaining his bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in accounting. Currently employed as a tax consultant at True Partners Consulting, Peter will be returning to Saint Xavier in the fall for a fifth year to study for a master’s degree in accounting. Peter is also a current member of the SXU men’s soccer team, has played soccer since the age of four, and loves to stay active. Always on the move and never one to shy from good conversation, his outgoing personality is what sets him apart from the crowd. Peter also has a love for all types of movies, pretzels, and taxes. He is truly humbled to be chosen to give the commencement speech at this year’s graduation, and honored to be able to call SXU home.

College of Arts & Sciences

Chance’s D. Walker

Bachelor of Arts in English, Minor in Psychology

Chance’s Walker is honored and avid about giving the commencement speech for the College of Arts and Sciences. She grew up in Griffith, IN and decided to come to Saint Xavier because her sister, Gabrielle Powell, is an SXU alum, and she wanted to stay close to her family. She has two older sisters, one younger sister, and one younger brother. Chance’s is very proud of all she has done at Saint Xavier University which includes being a Resident Assistant, a Resident Peer Minister, an Orientation Leader, a Transitions Peer Mentor, Director of Spirits and Traditions for Saint Xavier Council and a Quest Retreat Leader for Campus Ministry. She is a part of three international honor societies: Phi Chi, Kappa Delta Pu and Sigma Tau Delta. She has participated in several community activities such as a service trip to Nazareth farm, voluntarily tutoring children from impoverished neighborhoods over the summer at the Port Ministries and praying early mornings at the immigration detention center. Chance’s will be receiving her bachelor’s degree in English language arts with a minor in psychology. Chance’s plans to go on to graduate school to obtain her master’s degree in special education and psychology because she wants to become a psychologist for children with disabilities. She will be marrying a United States Sailor in July and moving to Maryland where she looks forward to starting her career and her family with him. She would like to thank her family, her mother Venus Goodwin predominately, for everything they have done for her; she couldn’t have done it without them.

School of Nursing / School of Education

Alexa Nakutis

Bachelor of Science, Nursing

Alexa Nakutis is honored to be delivering the commencement speech for the School of Nursing and the School of Education. Alexa was raised an only child, by her mother and grandparents, in Woodridge, IL. Over the years as a student here, she has been involved as a Transitions Peer Mentor, a Rebound Peer Mentor, Orientation Leader, and currently serves as President of the Student Nurses Association. Through this organization, she has volunteered for many programs such as PADs shelters, Ronald McDonald House, and various blood drives and health fairs. Alexa is also on the Student Nurses Association of Illinois (SNAI) 2015-2016 Board of Directors, as the Nominations and Elections Committee Chair. She is passionate about leadership and encouraging other students to become involved in their communities through their passion of nursing. Alexa would like to thank her loving family and friends for supporting her through all these years of endeavors and being by her side every step of the way. She will be receiving her bachelor of science in nursing and looks forward to her future of helping others as a Registered Nurse.
