Graduate and Professional School Fair at SXU

On Wednesday, October 26th, SXU hosted a Graduate Fair in the Butler Reception Room. The fair began at 11:30am and ended at 1:30pm. Admission was free for students and open to the public. Over 30 schools were present at the fair. The majority of the schools were from in-state. Students asked about the study programs and admission processes.

At the entrance, Career Services gave attendees a list of the schools present at the fair, along with tips on how to prepare for graduate school. Many schools gave away items such as pens, highlighters, and water bottles. Food was also offered at the fair.

The Xavierite spoke with Erin Lyons, a senior majoring in Communications, who was present at the Graduate Fair. She was there looking for options in order to pursue her Master’s. Lyons shared her opinion about the Graduate Fair.

“I liked [the Graduate Fair] because everybody tried to at least find something for you related or give you direction as where you could possible find your program of interest. So, I just thought everybody was really friendly and professional in networking with students . . . There was a good variety of [schools at the Graduate Fair], some that I haven’t heard of…it was interesting to go in there and see the different ones. Everyone was really nice,” said Lyons.

With concentrations in Public Relations, Advertising, and Corporate Communication, Lyons was looking for a Media related Master’s program. “I thought they had a good selection [of schools]. It was just hard to find a communication graduate program, but that’s just kind of the average. I know only a few schools in the state offer it, that are local. But, other than that, I thought they had a good variety of different schools some from in-state and out-of-state.”

“I’m just glad [that] SXU does this because it gives us a good opportunity to stay in school and not have to leave the campus to show interest in life after Saint Xavier,” concluded Lyons.
