After placing 7th out of 30 teams in the grueling University of Notre Dame National Catholic Championships, and going up in the ranks from 21 to 16, the Women’s cross country team has something else to be proud of. Junior Ellie Willging wins the Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second straight time. Willging finished 8th out of 214 total teams with an impressive time of 18:29.3. Willging’s individual performance, and role as a team leader has really boosted her and the team as a whole into the spotlight, a spotlight that they are sure to ride to more success

Despite the underwhelming start to the season for the Men’s Cross Country team, there is a bright spot, and that bright spot is junior Abel Hernandez. Hernandez like Willging is the stand out performer and leader for the team. In the previous tournament, Hernandez finished 24th out of 204 total runners, and finished the 8K race with a time 26:47. This impressive performance landed Hernandez CCAC Cross Country Runner of the Week. With the achievement of this award, one can only hope this boost the morale of Hernandez and his teammates so they can finish off the rest of the season strong.

Both teams compete in the Bethel College Invitational on October 7th.

Keep it locked here at the Xavierite for a recap of that event and many other.
